Following Avengers Endgame’s surprise five-year time jump, Thor went through quite the body transformation. Controversially nicknamed Fat Thor by fans (or his official title Bro Thor), the character had ballooned over the period after failing to kill Thanos. By the time the film ended, the Asgardian was still in the same shape and fans have been wondering if he’ll remain like this or go back to his god-like physique. Whatever Marvel Studios decides will no doubt be controversial among fans, and now Taika Waititi has given an update on the matter for Thor Love and Thunder.
Speaking with Yahoo, the Thor Ragnarok director who is helming the sequel said: “This is an ongoing debate that we’re still having at Marvel.
“Cause we’re trying to figure out how long – how many months or years – this is after Endgame, at what point does this take place?
“I think we always want to keep changing it up with Thor. He’s so interesting when he’s changing all the time.”
The last time we saw Fat Thor, he had joined the Guardians of the Galaxy on the Benatar at the end of Avengers Endgame.
This sparked speculation that he would be in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.
However, it’s all become a bit more complicated now that a fourth Thor movie has been confirmed.
Nevertheless, James Gunn has previously said that Thor Love and Thunder is set before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, so when Thor leaves the Guardians, and after how long, really is a mystery.
Asked if he will be in Guardians 3, Hemsworth added: “And I don’t even know when or if they’re shooting [Guardians of the Galaxy 3].
“After the Avengers press tour, I kind of went and buried my head in the sand.
“I’ll work with any of those guys. Asgardians Of The Galaxy.
“That’s actually great. You might’ve just got me my next job. Thank you, man.”
Thor Love and Thunder is released in UK cinemas on November 5, 2021, while Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 will land in 2022 or 2023.
