Liverpool went into Saturday’s Club World Cup final at the Khalifa International Stadium with another piece of silverware in their sights. Jurgen Klopp’s men were made to work hard by Flamengo, who booked their place in Doha by winning the Copa Libertadores earlier this year.
Europe’s own continental champions came out on top, though, with Roberto Firmino popping up with the decisive goal in extra time.
The Brazilian latched on to Sadio Mane pass before dancing back to bamboozle Diego Alves and then firing the ball past the floored goalkeeper.
Liverpool’s victory – soured by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain suffering what appeared to be a serious knee injury – meant they scooped the Club World Cup for the first time in their history.
