Winds of Winter release date announcement IMMINENT after website changes ownership | Books | Entertainment

It’s been a very long time coming, but George RR Martin may very well have finally finished writing Game of Thrones book The Winds of Winter. A Song of Ice and Fire fans have spotted what could well be a subtle marketing move, getting ready for a big announcement – perhaps even before Christmas?

Ser Dunk the Lunk posted on ASOIAF Reddit: “ is no longer being squatted.

“The DNS records were updated as recently as this morning.”

The fan tweeted: “After many years of apparently being squatted, changed ownership on 11/24.

“The IP address now points to a small hosting company outside Vancouver.”

They added: “This was not there a few days ago.

“In fact, if you use the internet archive you’ll see no message. Is WINDS coming?”

Whatever the case, Martin has set himself a publication deadline.

Earlier this year he wrote on his blog about attending the World Science Fiction Convention in Wellington, New Zealand in 2020.

According to the event’s website: “The convention will be called CoNZealand. The dates will be July 29 to August 2. George R.R. Martin has been announced as the Master of Ceremonies.”

Martin wrote on his blog: “As it happens, I already have plans to return.

“In the summer of 2020, Wellington is hosting the World Science Fiction Convention, the oldest and most important con in the SF/ fantasy calendar, and they’ve asked me to serve as Toastmaster for the Hugo Awards.

“I tell you this — if I don’t have THE WINDS OF WINTER in hand when I arrive in New Zealand for Worldcon, you have here my formal written permission to imprison me in a small cabin on White Island, overlooking that lake of sulfuric acid, until I’m done. Just so long as the acrid fumes do not screw up my old DOS word processor, I’ll be fine.”
